    Book details

A brutal serial killer stalks the million-acre Ottawa National Forest in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula, a man who can vanish into the vast woodlands without leaving a trace. The fragile local economy is paralyzed while authorities search for him. Will the elusive fugitive be brought to ground before he kills again? Is the killer a man with human motivations as they are now understood, however warped as they might be, or is he something else, a throwback to past times, times not seen for hundreds of years? The contradictions confound his pursuers.

Michael Genrich is a veteran outdoorsman who has logged thousands of hours exploring the vast Ottawa National Forest in Michigan?s western Upper Peninsula. He frequently performs voluntary duties for the United States Forest Service and lives in Ontonagon, Michigan.

A good read with a lot of local color but it was somewhat slow and predictable toward the end. As a native of the area the descriptions of the terrain are spot on.

I just finished reading Totem by Michael G. Genrich. What a wonderful story! I am familiar with the geographic area in which the story takes place and it is so cool. His account of the killer and the police/FBI investigators is so well written it brings the reader in to a "real done it." Read this story, if you are into mystery and suspense. You will not be disappointed. I think this story would make a great movie, honest, I do.Jan Jansen, My Sister Publishing Co, [...],
