A somewhat quirky collection of naval aircraft with very interesting history from Naval History magazine. Like me, presumably, you have read the standard collection of important aircraft that played key roles in naval aviation. But it is the not so famous from WW2 and the early post war jet transition that make it worth your attention. Without further ado, here is the list1. Fighter: Vought VE-7, F4F Wildcat, F5F Skyrocket & F7F Tigercat, F4U Corsair, F8F Bearcat, P-80 Shooting Star, F3H Demon, F7U Cutlass2. Attack: Martin T3M & T4M, SBD Dauntless, TBD Devastator, SB2C Helldiver, Martin AM-1 Mauler, N-A AJ Savage, Grumman A-6 Intruder3. Patrol/Anti-Sub/Warning : PBO-1 Hudson, PB4Y-2 Privateer, OP-2E Neptune, P5M Marlin, P6M Seamaster, S2F Tracker, TBM-3W Avenger4. Scouting/Observation : Pitcairn OP-1, Curtiss SOC Seagull5 Transport: R4D Skytrain, JRM Mars, Spruce Goose,6. Helicoptor: Sikorsky R-4, Piasecki HUP Retriever, Sikorsky HR2S, Gyrodyne DSN-1 Dash

Polmar covers an interesting selection of Navy aircraft in this book. Some are familiar and some are obscure, but all are described with care. This is not a typical listing of aircraft, but instead details some of the truly interesting planes that were fielded. Well worth it for either the casual reader or the enthusiast.
