    Book details

In the small Southern California town of San Mercury, a botched robbery in a pizza joint parking lot involving two young black men and a white man leaves one black man dead. The incident rocks the citizens to their core. Was it race-related or just a tragic accident? Detectives James Ferrian and William Larson are on a mission to find out, but others in town are jumping at the chance to come to their own conclusions. Black activist Rev. Leasure Woods turns the incident into a selfish publicity opportunity, while one of the witnesses is bound and determined to twist the night's events to her own satisfaction. But what none of them can know is how the robbery opens wounds thought to be long healed from ten years ago. Mysterious phone calls to Washington, DC, and a shaded past only deepen the mystery. When the small town quickly turns into a battlefield, strange alliances are made-and friendships are tested. Where there is no right or wrong-no black and white-the best you can hope for is A Shade of Gray.

I am not an avid fiction reader. I usually read history and science. But I came across this book "A Shade Of Gray" while looking for somthing to read while my Father was in the hospital. I could not put it down! The story line and plot was very creative. After the first couple of chapters I found myself wondering what was going to happen next for the believeable and well thought out characters. As I continued to read and got to know the characters, I found that I could understand the point of view of each one. Some with high morals, others with none! Morals vs. ethics. Right vs. wrong, Good & bad. The plot has a number of, ah ha! moments in the story that had me thinking.... "I know where this is going." And then the realization that I was wrong! After finishing I had the deep understanding that from the cop on the beat, to the Clergyman we meet, we all have A Shade Of Gray in us.This little book with the drab cover is a great read!!Good Job Mr. Hall!

The characters became people I cared about or at least wanted to see what happened to them. Read this when it first came out and I still think about the characters. The events that happened at times made me remember what things were like a long time ago, when a person's word meant something and jobs were about more than just a paycheck. The book also made me think about things going on today that I don't often enough look below the surface. It is summer, Mr. Hall, and I am going on vacation and where is the next book?

Loved the story! There were so many trists and turns, it really kept me wondering. I loved how the story jumped off the page, the characters really took a life of their own. It left me wanting to know more about the past of the characters! I can't wait to read the next one! The spelling and grammar errors were bad.

I don't normally go for action/crime novels, but the fast pace and great character development kept me interested. Good twist at the end - definitely recommend!
